Most tutorials show something being made. This series shows something being fixed, which is closer to how the work actually goes and much less commonly taught.

What the video covers

Retiming the pelvis on an existing turn: correcting how fast it moves, tracking its movement frame by frame, and working the arcs so the path is clean. Alongside that, the easing into and out of each position, with the aim of motion that reads as natural and snappy rather than even and soft.

Why the pelvis is first

Everything downstream inherits from it. The pelvis is the root of the body, so retiming it moves the legs, spine, arms and head with it. Any polish applied to those before the pelvis is settled is polish you will do twice.

Speed is where a turn succeeds or fails. A turn that moves at a constant rate reads as a mechanism. Real turning accelerates into the direction change and settles out of it, and the difference between those two versions is entirely in the pacing of the root.

Tracking frame by frame is the diagnostic. Stepping through the movement and watching the path the pelvis actually describes exposes wobbles that are invisible at speed. An arc with a kink in it will read as a hitch even when no single frame looks wrong.

Snappy is not fast. Snap comes from the contrast between a quick transition and a held position either side of it. Speeding everything up produces something hurried; holding the extremes and accelerating between them produces snap.

What to watch for

  • The path of the pelvis. It should be a clean arc, not a series of straight segments with corners.
  • Easing that describes force. Slow into a settle, fast out of a commitment. Uniform easing everywhere flattens the performance.
  • Do not fix downstream problems here. If the legs look wrong, note it and carry on. They are the next video.
  • Watch at speed after every change. Retiming decisions are almost impossible to judge frame by frame.
